Hi Everyone,

On the 31st of October we want Melbournians to show that they care for the less fortunate children of Victoria by placing 20,000 cardboard box homes at Federation Square.

What does it take to make Victorians aware of just how many people are homeless in Melbourne, to sit up and take notice? In the city of Paris the streets had to be lined with red tents before government officials realised more measures had to be taken to change. Let’s get Victorians to show the Aussie way of lending a hand.
We here at Homefulness want Melbournians to see, to face the facts, to realise that people from all walks of life are without a home.  Most importantly we want to break the damaging cycle that affects the most vulnerable.

In Victoria alone from 2008-2009:
  • 23,000 children accompanied their families to homelessness support services.
  • 16,200 were under the age of 10.
  • 6,408 young Victorians between ages 12 and 25 have nowhere to call home.
  • 20% of children needing immediate accommodation were turned away.

The cycle of homelessness needs to be broken. A stable home, education, security and recognition are needed to support an end to homelessness. It’s time that Victorians see the homeless.
Just like the boxes you see in the picture below, it only takes five minutes, some sticky tape and used cardboard to show your support.

Whether you are on your way to work, shopping, or out sightseeing you can recognise the youth without a home by placing your cardboard box homes at Federation Square.
At Homefulness we believe Melbourne can make a difference and give every child the chance to a stable future. Don’t let 23,000 children in need be disadvantaged anymore. Homefulness!
